By: Bob Beachy Recently, Mindy Ward was asked to speak at UMKC School of Law regarding practical tips for lawyers. She also spoke on the Top Ten Things to Know about Trust and Estates. In addition to speaking at UMKC, Ms. Ward was also asked to be a part of the Iowa Trust Association Fall Conference which was held October 7-8, 2010. The conference’s main purpose was to gain knowledge in the trust profession. Due to changing regulations, an unsure economy and the increasing need to stay current, Ms. Ward’s focus was about ethical dilemmas created by the use of wireless communications, cell phones and Meta data. She defined the reasonable expectations of confidentiality in light of ease of intercepting wireless conversations and what the courts say regarding privilege and wireless communications and inadverted disclosures. Ms. Ward has also been asked to be a co-Chair for the Heart of America Tax Institute, which is designed to meet continuing education requirements for attorneys, accountants and other professionals.
Melinda Ward has been with the firm for seven years. Her expertise includes taxation,estate and business planning. She is a member of the Kansas City Estate Planning Society, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (Taxation and Probate Committees) and is admitted to both the Missouri and Kansas Bar. Ms. Ward advises clients in all types of fiduciary controversies, administers estates and trusts and prepares federal and state individual, estate, gift, corporate and generation-skipping tax returns as well as fiduciary income tax returns for estates and trusts. Ms. Ward is recognized for providing excellent service in a timely manner while giving the client the personal attention they deserve. We want to congratulate Ms. Ward on her outstanding achievements!
