His community work has earned him the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for humanitarian commitment from Lions Club International Foundation and Leawood Lions Club. Tom and his wife, Kay, have been active volunteer sponsors for International Military Students at the US Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., sponsoring 25 officers from 13 countries over the past 30 years. Before undertaking a career in the law, Tom was a USAF missile combat crew commander assigned to control of Titian II ICBMs. Tom notes that the experience of working underground next door to a nine megaton nuclear warhead atop 300,000 pounds of highly explosive fuel has a way of keeping many of life’s challenges in perspective.
His practice emphasizes the issues facing businesses and charitable organizations, including tax matters, charitable solicitation issues, commercial real estate, intellectual property and asset sales and acquisitions.
